The Soyuz rocket is designed by the former USSR and Russia, for cargo hauling and carrying the Soyuz spacecraft. It can be assembled as follows to carry the LOK payload:
- Soyuz First Stage
- Soyuz 2nd Stage
- LOK Service Module
- LOK Crew Capsule
- LOK Docking Module
- LOK Fairing
- N1 Escape Tower
Trivia[]
- This rocket's original design (the R-7/Vostok, which can be semi-accurately recreated by removing the second stage) was used to launch the first satellite into orbit, Sputnik 1. Later, it also brought the first man into space, Yuri Gagarin. Its launch escape system was an ejection seat.
- The Voskhod variant didn't have a launch escape system. If there was an accident related to this spacecraft, all 2-3 cosmonauts were dead.
- The spacecraft is often incorrectly referred to as "LOK" in the game, speaking of which, was a variant of the Soyuz spacecraft in the late 1960s and early 1970s that would have been used in the Soviet crewed moon missions, however ended up cancelled following the failure of the N1 rocket.
- The first version designed by the soviets were to be used as ICBM's (Inter Continental Ballistic Missiles). They were later refitted for more peaceful purposes.
- The total cost of assembling the Soyuz is $17,625,000.
- There are 5 varieties of the rocket. Its official name is the R-7 Semyorka, literally "The 7". The one used here is the Soyuz variant.
- There are actually 3 stages of the Soyuz rocket. The first stage is defined by the boosters and core stage, the second stage is just the core stage and the third stage is the in-game Soyuz 2nd stage.
- The Soyuz spacecraft is significantly shorter and thinner than the Apollo CSM although in the game it is actually longer.
- There are fatal accidents related to this spacecraft.
- The Soyuz 1 killed 1 cosmonaut because of a parachute failure.
- The Soyuz 11 killed all 3 cosmonauts because of depressurization in the Soyuz spacecraft after undocking Salyut 1, the world's first space station. As of 2023, the crew of Soyuz 11 are the only people to die in space.
